Productive Artificial Intelligence and Training

Panagiotis Louridas
Associate Professor, Department of Administrative Science & Technology, Athens University of Economics and Business

On November 30, 2022, the company OpenAI introduced the ChatGPT service, putting Generative AI (Generative AI) in the spotlight. In January 2023, users of the service reached the 100 million mark, surpassing any previous technology adoption record. For many, PTN is part of their daily life. Among the many, professors, students, pupils, are experimenting and exploiting its potential. Can we draw some initial conclusions about the relationship and effects of PPE and education? What are the opportunities and challenges for teachers and learners?

Immediate and long-term impacts of AI on educational practice

James Mackay
Associate professor of Literature and Digital Cultures, European University of Cyprus

Artificial intelligence has already made huge inroads into our lives. However, the arrival of Large Language Models (LLMS) - chatbots trained using deep learning on vast databases of texts - has had a huge impact in just over a year. Much of the discussion of ChatGPT and other AI's in educational circles has concentrated on the potential uses of these technologies for cheating, but this rather misses the point: artificial intelligences have arrived and will fundamentally change the ways that our students will work in the future. In this talk, therefore, I will focus on some of the ways that LLMs can be utilized by educators and students to automate routine tasks and free up time for creative learning. I will also demonstrate best practices for enhancing teaching practices using AI, including AI-assisted research and brainstorming. Finally, I will turn to the future of AI-enabled classrooms, suggesting ways that the traditional assignment will need to change to accommodate an AI-enabled world.

The presentation will take place in English without translation into Greek.
